The Calcutta Emmanuel School serves the poorest of the poor children in Kolkata (West Bengal, India). They are given holistic growth opportunities through education, care and personal development to help them reach their full potential. Our children come from families that struggle to have one meal a day. But they too have a deep desire to be educated, to have better opportunities, to improve their living conditions and develop into healthy individuals with values and goals not only to be able to stand on their own feet but also to break free from the cycle of illiteracy and poverty. We offer the children an open door and safe environment to achieve this and also broaden their horizons. Their achievements can, and often do, inspire others in their communities to seek literacy and education as a way out of poverty.

Our Affiliation

We are affiliated with Ambleside Schools International a network of schools seeking to provide a living education. It Provides educators and schools with a comprehensive pedagogy founded upon Charlotte Mason’s philosophy. Nourishes schools’ leadership, including Boards, principals, parents, and teachers through comprehensive support for member schools, including leadership and teacher training, curriculum, and instructional resources.

As, a Ambleside school we are very intentional in everything we do. We believe that the 19th century British educator, Charlotte Mason got it right. Thus, we seek to consistently apply her principles and methods. Foundational is the conviction that “Children are Born Persons” and that “Education is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life.”
